CREATING A CALM AND MINDFUL EXPERIENCE FOR YOUR EVERYDAY SPACE
Hi, I am Maria, the artist and creator behind Maria Mueller Atelier. I am currently based in the picturesque Swabian Alps area in Germany, where I live with my husband and our two boys.
I create sculptural textile art that exudes timeless elegance and a profound appreciation for the beauty of simplicity.
If you are looking for a calm and mindful experience away from the everyday hectic, you are in the right place. My artwork offers a way to create warm and natural living spaces, where you can flourish, recharge and thrive.

INSPIRED BY SIMPLICITY AND THE TRANSIENT NATURE OF THINGS
My artworks reflect a fusion of tranquility and imperfection and are inspired by the simple, imperfect, and transient nature of things – a concept deeply rooted in the Japanese Wabi Sabi philosophy.
I work with a variety of natural materials, including handmade paper and textiles, to create organic and sculptural art pieces that evoke a sense of calmness, introspection, and appreciation for the transient nature of existence.
My color palette consists of soothing monochromatic tones of beige and white inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a tranquil world of contemplation and connection with nature.

PRIORITIZING SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS AND PRACTICES
In my art practice, I always strive for sustainability. From selecting high-quality materials* to my ways of working, I strive to create not only an experience of quality and beauty but also to make sure I am doing my best to leave as light of a footprint as possible.
I work with locally made papers and a mix of light and heavyweight fabrics like linen, flax, cotton, and silk.
My art practice is conscious and intuitive honoring the fluid nature of my creations.
* The raw materials for all fabrics I work with come from environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing (according to the GOTS standards).

FOLLOWING MY CURIOSITY
Throughout my life, I have always followed my curiosity, which led me to experience different countries, places, and cultures and has earned me a Ph.D. in biochemistry.
In my free time, I love to spend time with my boys or delve into various passions of mine, like cooking, pattern-making, and yoga. I enjoy a good matcha tee and I am always on the lookout for a unique ice cream flavor (black sesame with sea salt is currently my favorite). I have a big weakness for Japanese ceramics and papers, which resulted in sizable collections.
Becoming a Mom has inspired me to find ways to express myself amidst the beautiful chaos of motherhood. My art practice has become an essential part of reconnecting with my true self and finding balance.
